What is PIE VAT eSIM?

PIE VAT eSIM is an eSIM (embedded SIM card) provides cellular services[1] on compatible devices. It's convenient when traveling to destinations where your existing cellular provider does not provide any service—or charges an increased price.

How do I check if my device is eSIM compatible and unlocked?

The following steps may not be applicable to your device. It's recommended that you confirm eSIM compatibility by contacting your device manufacturer or carrier.

  • Go to Settings

  • Tap General

  • Tap About

  • Your device is unlocked if “Carrier Lock” says “No eSIM restrictions”

  • Your device supports eSIM if the “Available SIM” section has an IMEI

Can I keep my primary line on while using PIE VAT eSIM?

Of course. Most eSIM devices support two active lines at the same time. So you can keep your primary line “on” for calls and text while using your PIE VAT eSIM for cellular data.

Please make sure your data roaming on the primary line is not activated to avoid roaming charges.


 

Can I use PIE VAT eSIM for calls or messaging?

PIE VAT eSIM is for cellular data only and does not support calling or SMS. However, you can use your mobile apps that provide calling and texting including FaceTime, WhatsApp, iMessage, Zoom, Skype, etc.

 
 

In which country can I use PIE VAT eSIM?

What payment methods are accepted for PIE VAT eSIM?

When does PIE VAT eSIM expire?

When purchasing PIE VAT eSIM data, you can select a start date from which a 30-day expiration period begins. This means that once the 30-day period has passed, the eSIM data is no longer valid and you will need to purchase additional data.

If you add data to your eSIM before the 30-day expiration period has finished, your new expiration date will be based on the date the new data was added. For example, if you purchase an eSIM and select a start date of October 1st, then the data will expire on October 31st. If you add additional data on October 20th, then the new expiration date will be November 20th.

You can easily add data to any installed eSIM at any time. 

Can I change my plan later?

How to install an PIE VAT eSIM on iOS

Make sure you are on a stable WiFi connection before starting your eSIM installation.

For both the Manual and QR Code installation methods:

  1. Open the Pie app

  2. Go to Account

  3. Tap eSIM

  4. Select the eSIM you want to install

  5. Tap Installation Instructions to see your manual installation codes and QR code

Manual Installation

On your device:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Tap Cellular

  3. Tap Add eSIM

  4. Tap Enter Details Manually

  5. Enter SM-DP+ Address

  6. Enter Activation Code

  7. Select “Primary” for Voice and SMS

  8. Select your eSIM for Cellular Data

  9. Go to Settings

  10. Tap Cellular

  11. Select your eSIM

  12. Enable Data Roaming

QR Code Installation

On your device:

  1. Open the Camera app

  2. Scan QR code, then tap Cellular Plan

  3. Select “Primary” for Voice and SMS

  4. Select your eSIM for Cellular Data

  5. Go to Settings

  6. Tap Cellular

  7. Select your eSIM

  8. Enable Data Roaming

How to install an PIE VAT eSIM on Android

  6. Follow the on–screen instructions

  8. Turn off your primary line to avoid roaming charges from your home carrier

QR Code Installation

On your device:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Tap Network & Internet (or Connections)

  3. Tap on SIM card manager

  4. Select Add Mobile Plan (or “+”)

  5. Select “Scan Carrier QR Code” (or tap “Don’t have a SIM card”)

  6. Scan the provided eSIM QR code

  7. When your plan is registered, select “OK” to turn on the plan

  8. Now that you have activated your eSIM, you can view it in SIM card manager

  9. Turn on eSIM under Mobile Network

  10. Enable “Mobile Data” and “Data Roaming”
